SEO · East & West Sussex

SEO across Sussex, from the team that builds the site too.

Most Sussex businesses do not need to rank across the country. They need to be the name that comes up when somebody ten miles away searches for what they sell.

Werehouse Media provides SEO for businesses across East and West Sussex, England, from a studio based in Uckfield: local SEO, Google Business Profile work, technical fixes, content and AI search visibility. Local SEO starts at £695 a month and a full search programme at £995 a month, with no minimum term.

Most engagements start with an SEO audit and fix list, normally £495 and free for a limited time. Because the same team designs and builds websites, the problems the audit finds can be fixed, not just written down.

What does SEO cost for a Sussex business?

The same as anywhere else: prices do not change with your postcode, and they are published before anybody gets on a call.

Both monthly services run month to month with 30 days' notice. The wider picture, including the survey data on what UK providers charge, is in how much SEO costs in the UK, and every price we charge is on the price list.

Do you need an SEO agency based in Sussex?

Not for the rankings. Google's own explanation is that “Local results are mainly based on relevance, distance, and popularity”, and that “Distance refers to how far each business is from the customer who's searching” (Google Business Profile Help). It is your address that counts, not your SEO provider's.

Where being local does help is in the work itself: knowing that Crawley's buyers are often businesses rather than households, that Eastbourne runs on two economies, and that a Horsham search behaves differently from a Hastings one. It also makes meeting easy. We are in Uckfield, and meet clients across Sussex by arrangement.

The Sussex search market

Three numbers that shape SEO in Sussex.

About 1.76 million people. East Sussex had an estimated 560,882 residents in mid-2024 (East Sussex in Figures), West Sussex 915,037 (West Sussex JSNA) and Brighton and Hove 283,870 (Brighton & Hove City Council), all from ONS estimates. That is two counties and a city, each with its own towns, and many searchers name the town rather than the county.

66 miles from end to end. In a straight line, Chichester is about 66 miles from Rye. No single Google Business Profile wins the map pack across that distance, because the map pack is weighted towards businesses near the searcher. A Sussex business ranks strongest around its own address, and reaches further with pages written for the towns it genuinely serves.

521 new companies in a month. West Sussex saw 521 new company incorporations in July 2026 alone, according to the county council's monthly economy snapshot. New competitors arrive constantly, and many start by setting up a Business Profile. Standing still in local search usually means slipping.

SEO in West Sussex

West Sussex search splits by town more sharply than people expect. Crawley is a business-to-business market built around Manor Royal and Gatwick. Horsham has a strong professional and B2B base, and its SEO searches are far less contested than its web design ones. Haywards Heath and East Grinstead in Mid Sussex are small enough markets that a well-built site with a properly set-up profile often overtakes firms trading for decades. The coast from Worthing to Chichester is covered from the West Sussex page.

SEO in East Sussex

Brighton and Hove is the most competitive search market in the county and has its own page. Beyond it, Eastbourne splits between tourism and care, Hastings and Bexhill mix creative businesses with trades, and the Wealden towns of Lewes, Uckfield and Crowborough are close to home for us. The rest of the county is on the East Sussex page, and Tunbridge Wells, just over the border in Kent, is covered too.

How does the map pack work for a Sussex business?

The three businesses shown with a map above the ordinary results are chosen mostly from Google Business Profiles. The work that moves them is unglamorous: the right primary category, a service area that matches where you actually work, a steady flow of reviews, accurate hours and photographs of real jobs. Our Google Business Profile guide goes through each setting, and the local SEO checklist covers the rest.

The ordinary results below the map are not limited by distance in the same way. A good page about a service in a particular town can rank well outside the radius the map pack reaches, which is why both halves matter.

How long does SEO take?

Corrections to a Business Profile can show within weeks. New pages usually take one to three months to settle, and competitive searches take longer, particularly on a site with little history. Anyone promising a position is guessing: Google's own guidance on hiring help says “No one can guarantee a #1 ranking on Google” (Google Search Central). We report what moved each month, including what did not.

SEO and AI search: being named when somebody asks an assistant

More people now ask ChatGPT, Gemini or Google's AI Mode for a recommendation instead of searching. Those answers draw on the same pages and the same independent sources that search does, so AI search visibility is included in every engagement rather than sold as an extra. One practical point for any Sussex business: make your pages say East Sussex or West Sussex, England. We have seen an AI assistant answer a question about Sussex businesses with results for Sussex, Wisconsin. More on this on our AI search page.

Can the same team build and fix the website?

Yes, and it is the main reason to choose us over an SEO-only agency. When an audit finds that the site is slow, badly structured or missing the pages it needs, an SEO agency can only write a report. We can fix it, or rebuild it if that is cheaper: websites from £995 and redesigns from £1,495, with the search work built in.

Sussex SEO questions

Straight answers.

How much does SEO cost in Sussex?

Our prices are the same across Sussex: an SEO audit and fix list normally £495 and free for a limited time, local SEO from £695 a month, and a full search programme from £995 a month, with no minimum term. Across the UK, SEO is mostly sold as a monthly retainer, and what it buys matters more than the headline figure.

Are there affordable SEO services in Sussex?

Yes, and affordable should mean the money goes on work that moves enquiries. For a small Sussex business the cheapest useful step is often the audit on its own: a prioritised fix list any developer can work from, free for a limited time. Our local SEO starts at £695 a month. Cheaper packages exist, and in a quiet local market some are honest work; ask any provider exactly what happens each month before you sign.

Do you need to be based in Sussex to do SEO for a Sussex business?

No. Google says distance in local results is about how far your business is from the person searching, not where your SEO provider sits. Being local helps when you want to meet, and when the writing needs to know the towns. We are based in Uckfield and meet clients across Sussex by arrangement.

What is the difference between SEO and local SEO?

Local SEO is the part of search that decides who appears for searches with a place in them, or searches Google treats as local, like a plumber or a dentist. It leans on the Google Business Profile, reviews and town and service pages. General SEO is everything else: the site's structure, speed, content and the links pointing at it. Most Sussex businesses need both, weighted towards local.

Do you do SEO in Brighton?

Yes. Brighton and Hove behaves differently from the rest of Sussex because the city is so competitive, so it has its own page: SEO and web design in Brighton and Hove.

Do you only work with Sussex businesses?

No. Most of our clients are in the UK, including Surrey and Kent, and we work remotely with businesses in Europe and the United States at the same published prices. Sussex is simply where we are based.
