SEO for gas and heating engineers: winning the boiler, servicing and landlord searches
SEO for a gas engineer comes down to five things: a complete Google Business Profile, separate pages for boiler installs, repairs, servicing and landlord gas safety checks, your Gas Safe registration on every page, reviews that name the job and town, and a reminder system that turns one service into a customer for life.
Servicing and landlord checks repeat every year. That makes them the most valuable searches a gas engineer can win.
Why are landlord gas safety checks worth a page of their own?
Because the demand is set by law and repeats every year. The Health and Safety Executive tells landlords to ensure "an annual gas safety check is carried out within 12 months" of the last one, to keep the record for two years, and to give existing tenants a copy within 28 days (HSE landlord guidance).
Every rented home with gas in your area needs one, whether or not anything is wrong. Write the page for two readers. The landlord wants a price, a date and a certificate their letting agent will accept. The letting agent manages dozens of properties and wants one engineer who books access, turns certificates round quickly and sends them in a consistent format.
Say plainly how you handle both: your price per property and per extra appliance, how you arrange access with tenants, and how fast the certificate arrives. Offer a reminder before the next one is due. That reminder is where the repeat business comes from.
Which other pages should a gas engineer's website have?
| Page | What the searcher wants to know | What the page should show |
|---|---|---|
| Boiler installation | Cost, which brand, how long, the guarantee | The boilers you fit, installed price ranges, the manufacturer guarantee lengths you can offer |
| Boiler repair and breakdown | Can you come today, what does it cost | Real hours, a call-out price, the makes you repair, a tap-to-call button |
| Boiler servicing | Price, what is checked, does it keep my warranty | A fixed price, the checklist, a reminder offer |
| Landlord gas safety checks | Price, access, certificate turnaround | Price per property, how you book tenants, agent arrangements |
| Heat pumps, if you fit them | Is my home suitable, grants, running costs | Your survey, the grant you can help with, photographs of installs |
Each page should name the towns you cover and carry two or three reviews about that job. If you also do general plumbing, our guide to SEO for plumbers covers the leak and bathroom searches.
How should a gas engineer show Gas Safe registration?
Prominently, and in a way a customer can check. The law is simple: GOV.UK says "You must be on the Gas Safe Register to carry out gas work legally" (GOV.UK). Customers are told to check, and many do.
Put your business's Gas Safe registration number in the header or footer of every page, and explain that customers can check it on the Gas Safe Register's website. Engineers' ID cards are reissued every year with a new licence number, so publish the business registration number rather than a card number that will go out of date. List the categories of work you are qualified for, because a customer with an LPG boiler or a gas fire wants to know you cover it.
How do reviews and reminders work together?
Ask for a review on the day of the job, by text, with a direct link. Google says more reviews and positive ratings "can help your business's local ranking", and a review that names the boiler and the town helps the next person searching for exactly that.
Then send the service reminder eleven months later. Most heating engineers lose repeat customers simply because nobody reminds them. A website form that captures the boiler make and install date, feeding a simple reminder system, is a small build with a large return. Our guide to small business automation covers what it involves.

Questions gas engineers ask about SEO
How do gas engineers get more customers online?
Complete the Google Business Profile, build separate pages for boiler installs, repairs, servicing and landlord gas safety checks, show your Gas Safe registration number on every page, and ask every customer for a review that names the job and town.
Should a gas engineer have a landlord page?
Yes. Landlords must have gas appliances checked every year and give tenants a copy of the record, so the demand repeats. A page with a clear price, access arrangements and certificate turnaround wins landlords and letting agents.
Is SEO worth it for a heating engineer?
For the profile and a handful of service pages, almost always. Monthly SEO is worth it when you want more of a specific job, such as boiler installs or heat pumps, where each job's margin covers the cost.
How much does a website for a gas engineer cost?
With Werehouse Media, a one-page site starts at £995 and a multi-page site with separate service pages at £1,495. Maintenance starts at £49 a month. Prices are published on the price list.
